London Brick & Charcoal Candle Holders

A set of large and small modular candle holders, made with a custom composite material of acrylic eco-resin mixed with fragments and dust from reclaimed London bricks and the waste from charcoal production in Sussex, cast by Nina Jua Klein in her workshop in Stoke Newington. Through these aggregates, Nina has developed a truly London colour palette of terracotta, yellow and graphite. Only 50 were produced. This product was created as part of Atelier100's Drop01, a collection called Made of London.

Manufacturing story

The charcoal used for Nina’s custom composite material is a by-product from charcoal production in Wakehurst, a wild botanic garden in the heart of Sussex which is connected to Kew Gardens, where ranger Steve uses ancient and sustainable practices to burn British ash. The brick dust is a waste product of London bricks reclaimed from demolished buildings, that is being cut down in a west London brick yard.
